Glenora Real Estate – History in The Heart of Edmonton

Glenora Realtors

A heritage neighbourhood steeped in history and character, Glenora is one of Edmonton’s most coveted addresses. The charming community is framed on the east by Groat Road, on the north by 107th Ave., on the west by 142nd St., and on the south by the river valley and MacKinnon Ravine, creating a serene picture in the heart of the big city.

Heritage experts call Glenora the best-preserved “garden city suburb” in Canada, thanks to its high concentration of historic homes, curvilinear streets, unique lots, and awe-inspiring views. But a privileged 3,500 people call Glenora something else: home. You could be one of them.

Glenora Homes for Sale

There are roughly 1,500 dwellings in Glenora, and nearly nine in 10 of them were built before 1970. Combined with the area’s mature tree canopies, yawning streets, lush parks, and desirable views, this makes for a neighbourhood that’s as charming as it is sought-after.

Four out of five dwellings in Glenora are owner-occupied, and three out of four are single-family homes. The neighbourhood boasts Edmonton’s highest concentration of historic resources, with many homes having been designed by prominent architects in the late 20s and early 30s in revival and Modern styles.

The average listing is just upward of $823,000, though the range can run anywhere from $450,000 to more than $3.5 million. Whether you’re looking for a high-end estate or a historic character home, Glenora is the perfect place to begin your search.

Glenora Lifestyle

Avenue magazine named Glenora the best neighbourhood in Edmonton, and you don’t need to look hard to see why. From its stately homes to its enviable perch over the North Saskatchewan, bike-lane access to large lots, this prestigious community is a haven like no other.

Residents here take great pride in their neighbourhood and work hard to preserve its authenticity. Highlights of the area include the iconic Alexander Circle fountain (picture Paris’s Places des Vosges, but right here in Edmonton) and Government House, a brick and limestone Jacobean Revival building that gave Glenora its first taste of exclusivity in 1909.

Schools in the area include Glenora Elementary School, Westminster Junior High School, and St. Vincent Catholic Elementary School, as well as Progressive Academy, a private school. The neighbourhood also offers easy access to shopping, which most notably includes the High Street (eclectic independent shops offering custom home furnishings, books, clothing, stationary and more), and the famed 124th Street district (galleries, graphic design, photography studios, and more than 30 fashion and décor retailers).

The 124th Street area is also a foodie’s paradise, with more than 50 dining options to salivate over – everything from charcuterie to bakeries, bistros to brunch. Local favourites include Duchess Bake Shop, Canteen, Prairie Noodle Shop, Meuwly’s, the Grand Market, Credo and Violino Ristorante. Glenora itself is also home to Vi’s for Pies, an intimate local gem as famous for its desserts as its charm. Put simply, living here means date night will never run on empty!
