For today’s neighbourhood highlight, let’s explore one of the most beloved, sought-after and historic areas of the city! That’s right we are talking about the great Garneau.<\/p>\n

This fantastic neighbourhood is popular due to the amazing stores and facilities that can be found within its vicinity. From the Kinsmen Park, Kinsmen Sports Centre<\/a>, the John Walter Museum<\/a>, the Garneau Theatre<\/a> and the Community Arts Centre<\/a>. There is a least 90 incredible restaurants in the area. Access to downtown Edmonton is also quick and easy, and going to other parts of the city is a breeze!<\/p>\n

Garneau is also very popular amongst students and families! This is the student’s paradise – the closeness to the University of Alberta is unmatchable. For families with kids planning to go to the University of Alberta<\/a> – this is one of the best options! Invest for when the kids get of age (and you still want them to be close by!).<\/p>\n

Garneau’s historical background<\/h3>\n

Considered one of the oldest neighbourhoods in the city. Garneau is an incredibly historic area. Before 1912, the area that we know today as Garneau had the name “Strathcona City”. Its current name came from the first inhabitants of the area: Laurent Garneau, along with his wife and family. Laurent was a Manitoba M\u00e9tis rebel, and once his family settled in, the area got popular. From here the neighbourhood grew to what it is today.<\/p>\n
